Anerley Bicycle Club founded

Formed in Anerley in 1881. It sprang from a Hoop Club formed by a few young boys from Dulwich College who graduated to bicycles.

1888

Anerley Gazette

One of the first Cycling Club Magazines ever was edited by T D McMeakin produced by “copyograph”. The first printed version came out in 1890 edited by GH Smith.

Anerley Pioneers: GE Osmond

Inventor of the heel clip

S F Edge Breaks London-Brighton- London Record

On July 23rd S. F. Edge, riding a cushion-tyred safety. Edge put the time at 7 hrs. 2 mins. 50 secs.

Anerley Pioneers: GG Wridgway

Sets the record for Bath and back – 212 miles in 14 hrs 22 mins 57 sec.

Anerley Pioneers: GA Olley

Famous early record breaker between 1900 and 1908.

Popular event that attracted top riders from around the world.

Christmas Ride Report

The Jan 1914 Gazette had a write up of the Christmas Ride (actually on Boxing Day 1913) to the Anchor Inn on the Portsmouth Road at Ripley.

F J Osmond

World amateur cycle champion of 1890. See The Osmonds


G A Olley
