2019Rides

Tuesday Ride: 5th March 2019

An excellent day at Herne Hill Velodrome organised by Mark Hancock. Many of us met up at Shurguard and cycled the shortish distance to Dulwich and Herne Hill. The section around Crystal Palace was particularly hard going and some people had to walk up the horrible hills around Belvedere Road formerly home of SF Edge. I cannot imagine that the great man had trouble cycling around the area but one way systems, buses and lunatics in vans were probably not as a problem in his day.

21 Riders went around the velodrome starting with a simple introduction to fixed wheel bikes before we played the animal game, trying to keep a gap between each rider in ever decreasing animal sizes. The breathtaking end featured an old fashion English sprint in which the two teams cycled from opposite sides in a full speed relay.
