Sunday Ride: 9th October 2016
Another bumper turnout (more came after the picture) for the ride out to East Grinstead. A first visit by the Sundays to The Bluebell with cake.
That was an easy ride. The next sector was very different – a very, very lumpy ride south west to Sharpthorne and then around to Turners Hill and the Red Lion. Here our leader left six of us in the lurch with only beer, crisps and pork scratchings to survive. Nevertherless we set off following the North Star to Bletchingley. How to crack the North Downs was the question. Not Whitehill was agreed by all. But should we swing west via Chaldon and Fathing down or follow Pete “I know a way around the hill” Skinner?
We elected to do the latter which involved a bit of track work and slippy 23s on the bits that were not hills but still went upward sharply! The top is Caterham and then the long slope down to Kenley and back to the start. 48.5 miles @ moving average of 11.16mph.
