Five Go to Chartwell

A fine sunny morning saw five riders, Karen, Bob, Roger, Frank and Pete head out towards Chartwell heading up Marden Park and round the back of Oxted to Limpsfield Chart and then on to Chartwell. It was an undulating route but nothing too challenging.

Heavy rain was forecast later and the clouds started to look ominous during the tea stopped so we paused only briefly and then headed back via Westerham and the Pilgrims way. At Clarks lane we broke a club rule and did follow Frank who took us up Rectory lane which we agreed was a much better way up the hill, less traffic and more scenic. Karen outpaced us all to the top.

We re-grouped next to a marshalling point for a 100 mile long ultra run along the North Downs way more details of which can be found here, http://www.centurionrunning.com/races/north-downs-way-100-2017

We sped back along the top from Botley Farm touching 35 mph at one point, probably a record for me. Bob had a close encounter with a driver at the roundabout near Sainsbury’s where she cut him up, hitting his foot and nearly knocking him off. She seemed completely unaware of it.

The rain held off until just after we got back and then it chucked down.

35 Miles at a bright and breezy 14.1mph average
