Saturday Ride: 24th June 2017
A record turnout for the newly formed Saturday’s ride, this cycling thing could catch on!
Seven of us at the start were joined soon after by Jeremy so eight riders headed out to Shoreham air museum one of our favourite tea stops.
Weather was dry, overcast and a bit breezy, speeding us along the pilgrim’s way to Otford and entering Shoreham by the station end of the village. Approaching Shoreham this way you get to see what a quaint village it is. Apparently it was the UK’s most bombed village in WW2 – no sign of that now with lovely cottages and no less than four pubs!
Apparently the name Shoreham derives from the Saxon word Scor (pronounced shor). It means steep hill. We found out why on the way back after the tea stop.
An enjoyable ride 46 miles at a not too shabby 13.1mph
