Well it was just the dynamic duo of Karen and Pete that turned up at Shurguard, so after waiting the customary eight minutes for latecomers we headed out along Chipstead Valley Road, Kingswood, Epsom Downs and up to Domestique Cafe at Bookham. We pushed the pace and arrived at a respectable 14.5mph average.
It was surprisingly warm so we were able to enjoy some sunshine with our tea. They’ve added some new cycling related signs on the wall which I photographed, plus they had a hand written sign by the till saying “As from October 13th we are no longer accepting round pound coins”
Two cups of tea came to £4 so I handed over a fiver and was handed back, you guessed it, a round pound coin. So I smiled at the lady and said “as from October 13th I am no longer accepting round pound coins”. She had a sense of humour failure. Not the best customer service.
The return trip, was mostly downhill with the wind behind us, apart from boxhill, which was up and slow, for me at least.
Final ride stats were 36 miles at 14 mph
