A photo of a Great Crested Grebe for non-twitchers
4 at the start Roger, Graham, Bob and Pete (although two had to finish early) so we headed out up Mitchley Hill, then Beddlestead lane and onto the Pilgrim’s way. The wind was behind so we made good pace along the Pilgrim’s way and then up to Ide Hill village store for tea. A lovely spot overlooking Bough Beech Reservoir.
We then headed down and around the reservoir, which is a popular place for bird watching with the reservoir attracting Great Crested Grebes, Mandarin Duck and Little Egrets. Some twitchers had spotted a House Martin attacking a Sparrowhawk apparently.
Back via Marden Park and up the steep climb of Burntwood Lane before finishing at our now traditional watering hole of the Wattenden Arms. We were met by Mick who had cycled up Old Lodge Lane to join us for a beer.
