Much shedding of clothing marked the start and the end of the first ascent. An unseasonally warm day in the mid 50’s (in real money) saw TomTom leading the gang out through the increasingly popular Warlingham/Bug Hill/Marden Park route. This avoids the horror that is the fast road out to Botley Hill, or the thigh crunching Beddlestead Lane or dodging the A22.

TomTom’s aversion to the A22 and very steep climbs (hear! hear! from me) meant an exploratory right just passed Godstone Church a novel ascent of Tilburstow Hiil via Godstone Farm and a collection of cows, sheep, lamas, giraffes and dinosaurs (more or less). Sadly the A22 got a final ‘bite-back’ with an unavoidable 100 yards before the turn off to Horne and its eponymous Golf Club.

A pleasant place but not one renowned for its speed of service. Luckily we arrived just ahead of the ending of the golfer’s morning round. John T & Meike joined.

The return took us across to Redhill aerodrome, Merstham and the A23. A really good ride of just over 31 miles at a moving average of 11.98 mph.
