Tour of the Lowlands 2015
.
This was ‘The Fridays’ week long tour I did in September 2015. Around six Anerley members have ridden with our fellow CTC club over the years as the profile of members is similar and overlapping.
The ride was unsupported with us carrying our own luggage which was not onerous as the route was pretty flat and had the advantage of being much easier to organise, much cheaper and far more flexible. We stayed mostly in motels in France and sdome of us used the splendid Vrienden op de Fiets (Friends of the Bicycle) B&B scheme staying in peoples homes for 19 euros a night.
The ride started with an overnight ferry from Newhaven to Dieppe. Then starting at 5am! we rode to Eu (the town, not the institution) for breakfast. I did about 550 miles overall in wonderful weather around that heaven for bicycles – The Lowlands of France, Belgium & Holland. Well except for a trip up the famous cobbled Roubaix slope leaving panniers at the bottom!
DAY ONE: Dieppe to Hesdin 95kms
DAY TWO: Hesdin to Ypres 93kms
DAY THREE: Ypres to Bruges 52kms
DAY FOUR: Bruges to Hellevoetsluis 116kms
DAY FIVE: Hellevoetsluis to Bunnik (Utrecht) 107kms
