Sunday Ride: 31st January 2016
I was disappointed to see 5 people waiting for me when I arrived slightly late at Shurguard. Late because I struggled to put my shoes on over the waterproof socks and disappointed because I was hoping to just go back to bed.
Julia, Brian, Tom V, Barry, Jim, Tim left Purley and headed through Coulsdon and Reigate to Horley. Unusal for us as this is usually our route home and the unfamiliarity meant that even Brian tried to get lost as we made our wayt through the housing estate near Earlswood.
Lonesome Lane and Meath Green Lane are smooth as usual which meant the strong wind and miserable rain didn’t hold us up before we rolled into a new desitination at Horley. Planet Sweet is modest, friendly and good for a bacon butty and mug of tea or a peice of cake.
Jim & Tim kept moving to avoid getting cold and didn’t stop. After a cup of hot chocolate, Julia headed for the train station where she discovered that there were no trains heading towards Purley. She must have been flying as she caught up with the remaining three of us before Smallfield. Nobody fancied a pub stop so we headed home via Horne, Tilburstow Hill and Godstone.
Good exercise and 38 miles is decent mileage for a grim final day in January, but wearing waterproofs all day is not much fun!
