At 501 we were catching up with news. Met Ricky for 1st time since Bullecourt tour. Palace supporter Viv is shortly off on a 300 mile cycle over 4 days. Had not met Jeff before who hails form Newcastle where I have a cousin. Snippets regarding Jo’s recovery sounded fraught particularly the plating of her humerus compound fracture requiring a long incision. Ajay was showing his up market Giant replacement due to a crack in the carbon frame. Wilier Triestina only gave me a 5 yr warranty whereas Giant is for life. Ajay kindly inverted my bottle cage to its correct position!

Very pleasant ride to the EG café. Poor Agnes was barged into holding a cup of hot coffee by a café worker who looked comatose without even an apology. Refreshments good.

Jeremy warned us that we were not going direct to Turners Hill. Very prophetic. Later I noticed the 7th Purley [All Saints] Scout vehicle. Not Tom’s as his is the 9th Purley! I was trying to keep up and pass now and again the young tearaways Agnes and Ajay. Unfortunately Agnes and I got ahead of the group near Horsted Keynes up to a cross roads. A local said two ways to Turners Hill, easy and difficult ie the way we came. I went back down the hill to find Agnes who was by the hikers seen earlier. It was certainly a hilly route. At Turners Hill green that I have been to many times there was no sign of the Red Lion. A cyclist on the green kindly found it in a tucked away side lane. We searched the pub and grounds no sign of anyone!

Later you all appeared as I was going back up to the Green.

Very nice pub and gardens we sat in. I filled up my bottle and with Jim we headed back via Snowden Gardens and Felbridge up the A22 to the A25 and then up and through Marden Park. En route a left a message at Chez Kippin that I would miss my curfew time 2pm…. We parted at 2.42pm under the viaduct. Wrong decision to go for Bug Hill. Too cream crackered so walk of shame….

Added a couple of photos. Notice Ricky has a shaft of ethereal light shining down on him.
