Sunday 100 Miler Ride: 16th September 2018

We were seven at the start. Jim M’s re-appearance was very welcome after his Pru100 debacle. He is still suffering and planned only to make a short run and left us at Newdigate.

Tom found a novel route between Coulsdon and Coulsdon Waterworks. Useful if you need to add a bit of climbing but the consequent downhill was well worth it!

The route to Rudgewick and the Milk Churn through Capel and down Weare Street sweeping past the geese and duck/geese house on the pond was gorgeous.

Mark H turned up to take tea with us and abduct Belinda for a ride back home. Were were now five.

The weather was sunny and in the sixties (15-20C) absolutely perfect for cycling. The only problem was the memory of the Fittleworth Hillock. But we took another way. Same climb but much less sharp and windy.

We had made excellent time with 15 minutes to spare before they stopped serving breakfast at the Amberley Cafe.

Should we ride home or take a few prize ships on the Arun?

The ride home was even better with the light wind now behind us. Through Horsham [ugh!] and to the Half Moon at Charlewood for a final refresher before charging through Redhill and the A23 home.

99.52 miles at a very respectable 13.63 mph. With the ride to the start we all should have comfortably done our ton.
