Tuesday Ride: 21st March 2017
Twenty of us set out for Polhill Garden Centre on a gloriously sunny, if cool, spring day. It was an uneventful and speedy (for the normally very relaxed Tuesdays) ride. Indeed we beat John & Meike to the tea and cake.
The return was down to the M25 and along Pilgrim’s Way into a stiff wind. TomTom, our leader of the day, planned a deviation from the normal Clarkes Lane ascent of the North Downs. An ascent that is quite tough on a busy road.
However, most decided not to experiment with ‘The Avenue’ and (mostly) found their own way home.
Four of us were, at first, a little worried that the muddy track would disintegrate into something rather worse. But, as you can see, we forced a smile …
Instead tarmac returned and it turned into a very relaxed, gentle way and very pretty way to get to the top. Recommended if it isn’t to wet.
Descending Botley Hill we came across two damsels in distress who had been ‘dropped’ by the renegades. Jenny had punctured and Sandra was helping. Soon sorted the Fab Five completed a great ride.
33.91 miles at a moving average of 11.33 mph.
