Thursday Ride: 14th September 2017
Five of us (David J Gordon, Barrie Foster, Hitoshi Ebishima, Belinda Wigmore and myself) rode to Tilgate near Crawley. We met John and Meike Turnbull at The Walled Garden Community Cafe which is well inside the park. We had a job finding the cafe because where the park cafe use to be is now Smith and Western pub/restaurant. The new cafe has moved to a more secluded place and, in my opinion, too far from the car park for people with limited mobility. I am surprised that John and Meike were able to find the cafe, never mind make their way there (it is something for Ride leaders to consider when planning a stop near that area).
The ride itself went without hiccups apart from slight hesitations here and there about the right route but David as usual did a sterling job to get us to the destination. One missed opportunity was the taking of a photo of us near a ginormous red & white football (I’d say at least 10 feet tall!) sitting on one of the A23 roundabouts next to the Broadfield Stadium near Crawley. I attach a pic of it which I found on Google and photos of us at the cafe.
