Remarkable Race of 1913
Not one of our captain’s early sportives but a recreation of a race supposedly in Sydenham a century ago around Mayow Park by vintage cars.
As none were available an assorted collection of bikes, trikes and quikes from Wheels for Wellbeing were dressed up for a special performance in the Sydenham Arts Festival. So why is that of interest to The Anerley?
- These are some of the same bikes John Turnbull used in his return to cycling
- Mayow Park is midway between Anerley and the early Anerlanian alma mater – Dulwich College
- I was one of the competitors (doffs cap)
Each team had a theme including:
- Suffragettes
- Boy Scouts
- The Red Menace (me!)
