QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"Since the bicycle make little demand on material or energy resources, contributes little to pollution, makes a positive contribution to health and causes little death or injury, it can be regarded as the most benevolent of machines." - Stuart S Wilson

ENVIRONMENTAL BICYCLIST OF THE WEEK

Today is the special climate change day when not just children go on strike to bring society and especially politicians to account for endangering our futures. Greta Thunberg has become the rockstar of the movement showing how you can get almost anywhere with a near zero carbon footprint.

Trains, boats but not planes - Greta is sticking it to the UN and the USA right now and elevating the issue to the top of the political agenda. Over 60% of the populations of Italy, France & Brazil strongly believe we have a climate change emergency. Even Trump's USA is ahead of the UK. I guess that might indicate why our government is putting into reverse many climate change mitigators - particulary when it comes to favouring polluting methods of transportation over cleaner including us, cleanest of all, cyclists.

The Mayor is trying to do his bit with London's first Car Free day on Sunday even including an opportunity to ride a classic bike across Tower Bridge: https://road.cc/content/news/266656-londons-first-car-free-day-sunday-heres-details

ENVIRONMENTAL BICYCLE OF THE WEEK

T'is Greta's. How's your Swedish?

CLUB MEET 2

Big turnout Wednesday night. Very positive contributions including more Sunday Rides and Tina's Lifesaving lessons.

More on both next week when both Fran & Tina have gotten time to do their reports.

Meanwhile put Sunday November 24th in your diaries for our AGM preceded by the traditional Freewheel Downhill Race.

ANERLEY TV STARS

Back in 2006 two Anerley riders appeared in a TV programme. You may not recognise the one on the left but you will certainly recognise the one on the right.

We can't make the recording public but there is a private showing for members here: https://anerleybc.org/tv-show/

You will have to enter the password which is John's surname (all in lowercase). Enjoy!

FINALLY: Why there was no Bugle last week

We went on an environmentally friendly Tour of Britain. The Cotswolds, The Black Country and then all these yellow signs over most of West Yorksire which will literally close for three or four days next weekend. Flags everywhere and even this on the side of a pub:

Strange how their has been so little media pre-coverage of this event.

Eventually we got to Scotland and not enough internet to upload the Bugle. Even getting the apology out broke the system as you probably gathered from the strangulated apology. Sorry.
