Bryn Tulley RIP

Bryn passed away on Tuesday morning. Des has put some words together from his memories, Mark's and the Club Gazette & Record Book.

Please take time to read the obituary and remember a cyclist who did so much for our club: https://anerleybc.org/bryn-tully-rip/

Here is a video of the 2012 Annual Awards Presentation where Bryn (having so lovingly polished the shields) took most of them home!

If you have any special memories you would like to share of Bryn - please send them to the return address of this email.

BRYN'S FUNERAL

Thursday the 2nd of May at 2pm st Mary's Church, Addington Village. Casual clothes. Reception: The chateau, Coombe Lane Croydon for a finger buffet. If you are going let Mark or Richard know .

TIME TRIAL OF THE WEEK

Bryn was at the heart of Anerley Time Trialling which is now being revived as more and more members get involved under the enthusiastic leadership of Capt'n Mark. Their latest outing on the 10 Mile TT in Dorking was 6th April. Weather was cold, very grey & overcast with light occasional rain and the course was a little lumpy.

Here are some pix featuring Mark, Barrie (with Denise), Tim, AJ & Fran. You can see all 64 snapped by young Vince H here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/fcfb1dwa9fywcu4/AADfU497arOa1-DuKDkOkFyxa?dl=0

CLUB CENTURIONS

Time Triallists go fast head down and are highly competitive for a few miles.

The opposite is to go slow, soak in the countryside (and ale), go far and feel a similar sense of achievement. Two of us informally did our first Imperial Ton of the season a few weeks ago into Kent as a slingshot off the Saturday Ride.

This Sunday may be another opportunity to slingshot off the scheduled ride to Tea Pot Island, Yalding. Tim will lead back but Mark is off towards Ashford. Anybody want to join me and follow him?

The modus operandi is to ride until the 50 miles clock up and stop at the next pub and turn. This time probably coming back the easy flat way via Hildenborough and Four Elms.

We shouldn't need lights but it doesn't do any harm to pack 'em. Full armour is optional ;-)

UPCOMING RIDES

We are catching the 9.18 train from Purley to Tattenham Corner, calling at Coulsdon Town at 9.23. single fare £2.60. This gets us to Tattenham corner for 9.42 where we head straight off road across the downs.

The route is planned as follows: Outbound, Epsom Downs, Langley Vale, Staine Street (an old Roman Road) Juniper Hill, Headley, Epsom Downs again to Walton on the Hill Grey Dove cafe for tea. Return, via Banstead Common, Mogador, North Downs way, Gatton Park, Merstham, Bletchingley, the Conduit, Hextalls lane and on to the Wattenden Arms. 28 miles. All welcome.

FINALLY

It's been a sad week. Here's a memory of last September when a club ride stopped to admire Notre Dame.

Happier Cycling this week!
