Club Gazette Autumn 2010
Issue No.3 Autumn 2010NOTICE OF AGM – TO BE HELD AT LOWER BARN ROAD 7th NOV 2010. EDITORIAL As Autumn approaches – rides get shorter, its time to reflect on the club members achievements the mammoth task Bryn Tully and family performs in running our prestigious open time trial event. Despite “staff shortages’ our racing riders Bryn and Richard Tully. Lamonn Croke, plus on the track Geraldine Glowinski rode several very competitive races. It is on the “leisure” rides our best attendaoces base been achieved – as many as thirteen riders under Captain Jeremy Hammond’s or V cc Captain Brian Penny’s leadership round the delights of Surrey, Sussex and Kentish lanes. The new departure (after our 2007 charity event that John Dadson master minded for St. Christopher’s Hospice) has been two groups riding to raise funds for Cancer Charities under the blessing of last year’s AGM agreement. The “Picos” team of Des, Luke and Tom to Spain and Gina and Duncan’s Lands End to Joitn O’Groats ride in aid of the “Pelican Cancer Trust” ‘ the club members and friends gave very generously and the gift aid contribution boosted the final total. Gina’s report is printed in full in this issue and I’m holding Des. Luke and Tom’s epic adventure Over to the Christmas Issue. However this issue has a racing round up and result of the map reading event. On a personal note- three quarters of my was through a cycle tour to Suffolk and Norfolk to visit Vice President Norman Greig and his wife Betty. I became rather unwell, the outcome of which I will be going into Hospital by the time this edition “hit’s the newsstand”. To end on a brighter note – a consortium of “older members” have gifted to the club a batch of the much sought after circular club cloth badges to be sent to all active riders (leisure and racing) in the hope of raising our profile around the area (and maybe a discount in “Cycle Plus” if they think it’s the Addiscombe badge!!!) After the initial issue to active riders, any badges left can be purchased at £3 each – so wear your club badge with pride. Lastly a reminder to all members the AGM is to be held on November 7th 4p.m. at Lower Barn Road. Please make every effort to attend. Any items for the agenda to Hon. Secy.
