QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“Cycling at 12mph equates to 3 mph walking.” - Jon Snow on the benefits of cycling.

BICYCLIST OF THE WEEK

Richard Porte in Sky (remember them?) jersey as one of Bradley Wiggins' domestiques on the 2012 Tour de France. Chris Froome was another. And now Richard is following in Bradley, Chris & Geraint's tradition by replacing it with the yellow jersey.

Richard holds the lead at the end of Stage 7. Will he hold on?

BICYCLE OF THE WEEK

Ok, so you wanna win the Tour de France. Which bike? Here is defending champion Geraint's steed the Pinarello Dogma F12. Off the shelf that come at a cool twelve grand. Except they include disc braking which Geraint had to have removed ;-)

TV PROGRAMME OF THE WEEK

Last July a taxi-driver drew alongside me near East Croydon station and wound his window down. I was expected an earful. Instead admiring my yellow jersey he shouted "Right on Geraint!"

Which shows the danger of believing in taxi-driver stereotypes. Something the makers of this now infamous TV programme screened last Tuesday have yet to learn. There are stories of how they had to search high and low to find people who really, really hate cyclists. Here are some stories you should read how:

RIDE LEADER & MARSHALL TRAINING

Pete S writes:

There will be a training session that will cover both marshalling and leading rides on 20th July, at 10am. This will take place at the LCC Office in Wapping. Click the link below for registration.
https://membership.lcc.org.uk/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=240

Register directly yourself and then let Pete S know. The plan is to travel to London Bridge by train and then cycle to the LCC office.

Places are limited and likely to go fast - there are already 6 Anerley members planning to attend so you will be in good company.

CLUB CENTURIONS

Three did an imperial century last Saturday (see Ride Reports), everybody can have a go at one this Sunday. If you've done a 100k, you can do it. Plus its one of Kent's flattest rides. See Upcoming Rides.

I think I can feel a Club Dinner toast coming on - and it ain't Rye ;-)

FINALLY: A MURDER MYSTERY

Two people on bikes exactly 100 years ago. The lady is shot and killed. The guy was brought to trial after his bike was recovered. But he got off. Was it justice?
