QUOTE OF THE WEEK

BICYCLISTS OF THE WEEK

Ronnie and Nathan are 15 year olds from WIlson's school who started cycling properly in December and with training from Des and myself are about to take on the challenge of cycling from Wallington to Paris this Saturday. Hopefully, all will go well for them as they are raising money for their school but you can follow their journey on:
https://wilsons2paris.blogspot.com/
I'm sure many of you will recognise the crest of Ditchling Beacon which was their final training ride. Wish us luck as we take on the 225 mile trip to Paris.

Alta Badia, a Unesco World Heritage Site, has long been a magnet for cyclists looking for challenging mountains and fabulous food. Its headline event is the Maratona dles Dolomites, one of the most fearsome amateur bike races in the world. It involves 140km and more than 4,000m of vertical climbing in a single day. Far better to slow down, take the family and enjoy a gentler ride among some of Italy’s most beautiful peaks, safe in the knowledge that there isn’t a car around the next bend…

ANERLEY CHARITY RIDE 2019

Further to agreement at the AGM, this year's 25 mile Charity Ride from S.Norwood Arena to the Old Jail Pub in Biggin Hill will start 10.30 on Saturday 22 June. Sponsorship money will be divided equally between iiChild and St Christopher's Hospice (where John Turnbull spent his last days).

It is hoped everyone will turn out (no other Sat. ride please) and we can beat last year's super sponsorship sum of £2,000. Further details, including sponsorship will follow. There will also be an additional but separate ride for less proficient riders and children who can be sponsored by the number of laps they do off road in the safety of the adjacent Country Park.

BICYCLE TRAILER OF THE WEEK

I have taken teenagers on training rides but if you want to take your infant children with you then a trailer is a good option. Pete Skinner often takes his Saturday group off road and this may be what they get up to...

PRUDENTIAL RIDELONDON 100 PLACES

You may know that charities have to buy places at the Ride London in order to sign up supporters for their fundraising which in turns goes to support the charities' work.
I work for the Rainbow Trust Childrens Charity and we currently have limited spaces for £80 with no fundraising target. A good chance to get on the ride at the last minute!

CYCLISTS FALL FOR FAKE ROAD SAFETY AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

A motorist shared the photoshopped image of the back of a bus in Perth, which featured a cyclist alongside the words 'watch out for dumb f**ks on bikes'.

Cyclists rallied together to call for an inquiry into the satirical slogan, while others who missed the joke said they would contemplate suing whoever approved it.

Just goes to show that you cannot believe everything you read on social media especially if its a message aimed at you!

NO PAIN NO GAIN - SIGN UP FOR THE WALLER PAIN - HILL CLIMB

Waller Lane is a narrow road running from the centre of Caterham that pitches up at 20 per cent in places, and includes 210 feet of climbing over its 0.31-mile length. The all inclusive event attracts an unusual mix of Elite riders including National Hill Climb Champions, enthusiastic club amateurs, have-a-go Mum’s on shopping bikes all the way down to kids on balance bikes (supported by strong backed Mums and Dads).

Organised by Fireman Bob's nephew so there is a link to Anerley here!

FINALLY:

I am leading Ronnie and Nathan to Paris and am currently unable to sit properly due to a little abscess on my sitting bones. Wish me luck and bum voyage!

Happy Cycling!
