QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"Cycling releases a chemical in the brain that makes you feel utterly smug and superior for the rest of the day" - Mark Steel

BICYCLIST OF THE WEEK

Jon Snow, Channel 4 New's anchor of the colourful ties and socks persuasion and also President of our very own CTC made his own news this week. Jon was videoed taking a massive pair of bolt cutters to a kid's bike chain outside the ITN offices.

The kid had inadvertantly chained Jon's bike too. Jon was rushing to a pre-arranged interview so swift action was required. Having done the deed he relocked the kids bike with a new one and still made the interview on time. Easier to make up time with a bike than a taxi in central London!

The video is here: https://twitter.com/Pic_Nick/status/923165466440454145/video/1

BTW: If you find your bike has been chained to another - don't leave it hoping the other rider will return. It is a tactic sometime used by thieves  to steal the bike at leisure in the dark or whenever convenient.

BICYCLE OF THE WEEK

Steel, Aluminium, Carbon? Nope, this is the bike for treehuggers. Hollow wooden frames offer superior vibration damping qualities compared to carbon or metal, without sacrificing stiffness. Or so claims Renovo Bikes. Its a bit far to their shop in Portland, Oregon but you can admire from afar here: https://renovobikes.com/

JULIA TOURS CROATIA

What does a cyclist do when Tom's away? Well forgo the usual lugging of tents from one campsite to another and book a luxurious Adriatic Cruise. Yep, bikes are involved with day excursions up the local mountains - but only to view the amazing Croatian coast from another angle. Check out Julia's week here: https://anerleybc.org/julias-boatycycle-croatian-tour/

58 DAYS TO CHRISTMAS ...

But only 45 day to the Anerley Christmas Lunch. Yep - put Tuesday 12th December in your diary. Our new social sec - Viv - is finalising arrangements for this year's gig at a new venue. We are expecting around thirty so to avoid disappointment get your reservation in now by replying to this edition of the Bugle. It will be in the South Croydon area and cost around £28 per head. All, including partners, are very welcome.

CLUB AGM: 12th NOVEMBER

Now only two weeks away. It is at 4pm after the Freewheel competition. We have found volunteers for Treasurer/Mambership Secretary and Social Secretary. We have Vice Captains for day rides and racing. Should we have one for touring? I'm putting that one up for discussion and seeking to persuade some folks to take us somewhere interesting next year.

If you have any ideas then get them to President Meike this week so we can get an aganda and AGM details in next week's Bugle.

CLOCKS

If you are doing the Sunday Ride - remember you will get an extra hour in bed as the clocks go back Saturday night. The downside is sunset will be at 4.40pm so if you get back a bit late or it is very overcast then think about BRINGING LIGHTS.

HALLOWEEN

Is this Tuesday. Its also Sally's first time as leader. If that doesn't spook you then join her for the 10am 'B' Ride to High Elms wearing something kind of interesting ...
