QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“Bicycles may change, but cycling is timeless.” - Zapata Espinoza

BICYCLIST OF THE WEEK

John E on last Sunday's Ride who was the font on an apparently unending stream of historical facts, figures and anecdotes. Test him with something like "Who was the last rider to win the Tour de France on a  531 frame, Compag gear and yellow bar tape?" Awesome.

Be careful when shaking hands or you may be caught in his Danish finger lock. And don't remind him that Lincolnshire is the grumpy end of Yorkshire ;-)

BICYCLE OF THE WEEK

Well last week really. Spotted and pictured by Pete S (thanks) this cyclists on RideLondon's Freecycle day has dumped his Mavics for some sporty new Adidas 6 spoke training wheels. You can watch them in action here: https://anerleybc.org/adidas-wheels/

CYCLING IS THE NEW GOLF

Those Adidas trainer wheels might not be a joke. Adidas - and Nike - are abandoning their golf club businesses. Why? Well in the US , the number of golf players has declined from 30 million in 2005 to roughly 24 million in 2015 and that has provided a problem  as the nation accounts for half of all players and courses in the world.

"At best, the US golf market is static, while at the same time we have seen traditional golf markets across North America and Europe being hit by the rise of cycling," says Prof Chadwick, professor of sports enterprise at the University of Salford.

Oh, dear - this could also hit the number of golf clubs in Surrey and Kent we can stop for tea and cake ...

Oooops! - wrong picture ;-(
