QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"If you're going through hell, keep going" - Winston Churchill

BICYCLIST OF THE WEEK

Barrie scopped a load of silverware at our annual do. He hasn't cornered any ladies cups yet - but give him time.

As for time he intends to be 20 seconds faster this year - thanks to the extra age allowances TT organisers squander on folks that don't need 'em.

It was Barrie who famously rode back from Brighton without a chain. But some folks go much further without a chain AND a wheel. introducing ...

UNICYCLIST OF THE WEEK

Mr Ed Pratt (really?) is cycling around the world on this rig. Unbelievable, I guess most of us wouldn't get past the kerb. Presumably the number of potential technicals is limited but the hills must be formidable without gearing.

Sit back and enjoy (guaranteed) the most enjoyable and amazing 20 minutes of your day watching one of Ed's weekly videos as he crosses the hot and sweaty Carolinas and learn a little of how to kit out your stuff on such an unstable platform. [thanks TomTom]

ONE WHEEL AT A TIME

Vince writes:

Following a request at the last AGM, a series of bike maintenance training sessions was carried out by myself assisted by Des.

The sessions, lasting two & half hours, covering topics such as Chain cleaning, cable lubrication, Indexing, tyre removal / refitting together with other General Maintenance items.

Particular attention was given to the technique of removal / refitting if a tyre, which a lot of riders have a problem with. In addition, the removal / refitting of a rear wheel in relation to the cassette & chain, which again seems to frustrate riders.

This was very much 'hands on' with members practicing what they had been taught.

A big THANK YOU to Duncan, who agreed for the training to take place at Wallington Cycles - and more bigger pix here: https://anerleybc.org/wheeling-with-vince/

FINALLY

Most of us have nearly been there but this guy had the full whack (but did walk away). Even though the video shows exactly what happened in clear detail - the prosecution was only for not giving driver details - and then only because Tesco 'shopped' him.

Why not careless driving? Well the charge brought was open and shut. Perhaps the CPS didn't go further fearing the magistrate might take the view of two of the commentstors to the story who blamed the cyclist!
