QUOTE  OF THE WEEK

“No hour of life is lost that is spent in the saddle” – Winston Churchill

BICYCLIST  OF THE WEEK

Last week I said it would be the winner of the Giro d'Italia.

Well that's not Chris [clue: he doesn't have a moustache] but it is the man more than any other who put him there. David Kinjah was the man who took a very young Froome into his all-black group and rode him far and very high through the Kenyan hills and built that callow youth into a grandest tourer of his generation and possibly of all time.

You may need to read Chris's autobiography to grasp what this man did for him and Kenya (and is still doing). All this despite the attempts by the Kenyan Cyclying authorities to destroy his career.

So a wonderful smile and the smile of a man who can rightly share in the winning of the trophy. Those who find it difficult to understand Chris's amazing breakthrough stage 19 ride through the Italian hills need to checkout this part of Chris's life with David.

'BICYCLE'  OF THE WEEK

Not sure this qualifies. It has four wheels and battery assist. But it is surely more bike than motor. One that makes one impervious to rain or ageing muscles. This 'pod' bikes are quite popular in the low countries and even without battery assist can bomb along at amazing speeds on canal paths and such like.

This is a new model looking for crowd-funding. You can pre-order here: https://www.podbike.com/

ORDERING CLUB KIT

Hopefully Akuma will spot their typo before producing the real thing. These are supposed to be of higher quality than the original jerseys so if you need to replace, augment your current collection or are a new or prospective member - now is the time to put your pre-order into membership secretary George. He hasn't the final prices yet but please don't hesitate and get in touch. Members will already have his email address [unless you have been ignoring all those sub requests]. Others can make their request by replying to this email or via the forum here: https://anerleybc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=261

And here is the sizing guide:

UNARGUEMENTATIVE CYCLISTS - LOOK AWAY NOW!

The most  passionate of cycling debates - helmets. I will say no more than watch this Guardian video. Oh and to say that as a statistician - life can be surprisingly counter-intuitive if you use evidence rather than anecdote.

FINALLY - IN A CROYDON STREET NEAR YOU!

I have seen a bicycle pump used in anger but not a zombie-killer knife. This was filmed in London Road, Croydon on Wednesday. It showed what happened after a VW driver drove out in front of a cyclist in London Road. Watch the video to get a flavour of how terrifying the incident was. You may wish to ponder which is more dangerous to human life in these circumstances - a nasty knife or a two ton car.
