QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"Riding a bike is the best antidepressant drug and only has good side effects." - Gunnar Rempel

BICYCLIST OF THE WEEK

Christophe Bassons. Remember him? He was drummed out of professional road racing by Lance Armstrong for his strong anti-doping stance. Asprint this week chasing down another racer has made him a hero once again.

Looks like cyclists are moving on from drugs to motors to enhance performance. Christophe, who now works for the French anti-doping agency AFLD was suspicious about a rider in a race but when he and other officials tried to question him - he sped off. Christophe jumped into his car and managed to stop him. They found a motor hidden in the frame!

ELECTRIC BIKE OF THE WEEK

If you are going to use a motor - get the best! The Independent has just published their list of the best 10 electric bikes - and Brompton comes out top with its neat detachable frame attached power pack at the front. As Brompton purists/tourists will confirm this is about the best place to carry weight without affecting balance or steering.

No real electric road bikes featured but this looks funky and is available from Cycle Republic in Purley:

TOUR DE CORSICA

The Bugle brings you the fourth tour in as many weeks by one or more of our members. This week Peter Roberts - having done America tackled something smaller. Peter went for a week cycling in Corsica from 17th to 24th September. A wild beautiful island with very challenging cycling. He climbed over 7,000m in the week.

Peter hired hybrid bikes in Bastia and took panniers, cycling from hotel to hotel. He thinks if he did it again he would allow a bit more time and have a rest day half way through. The rides are here, click on photos to see some views of the island:

FINALLY

It isn't just the BBC and nearly every other major company that has a problem with women's pay. Male riders on World Tour teams, the minimum salary will rise to 38,115 euros next year while for riders on Pro Continental teams, the minimum wage will rise 2,000 to 30,885 euros

What are the women getting? Nowt, not even a minimum. Given the alleged misogyny British Cycling is making a bit of a pig's ear in handling this is a very poor show. Too much testosterone amongst cycling's leadership?

Time to put women in charge? At least the Anerley is half way there ...
