QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Overheard last Sunday whilst climbing the Weald and other mountains:
“This is why God gave us gears - but not enough!”

BICYCLE  OF THE WEEK

Not seen on many Anerley Rides - TomTom's 'explosive' Cannondale came out to play for this Thursday's Wandle Trail ride to Richmond Park. Designed to cross peat bogs, quicksands and probably the Atlantic Ocean  it was not deeply challenged by the benign and bone dry conditions.

Why explosive? Well apparently the last time it did it the front tyre exploded like a gunshot leaving a deep rip. It was  unrideable and allowed the nearest cycle shop to extort the maximum price for a replacement.

More on the Cannondale F6 here: http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/BikeSpecs.aspx?year=2008&brand=Cannondale&model=F6

Just how many other bikes has TomTom got hidden away .... ??

BICYCLIST OF THE WEEK

A tribute to Mike Hall who was killed two weeks ago in the final stages of the Indian Pacific Wheel Race across Australia. (Picture from Juliana Buhring's facebook page).

You may recall Bicyclist of the Week just before was Frank Proud who introduced me to continental touring - and was also in that race. The tribute comes best from him. Plus an horrific account of the dangers of cycling in Australia. One place that will not feature in my future tours - nor his!

RECENT RIDE REPORTS

Sunday 9th: Ten do Ightham Mote and Ide Hill. Jeremy has written a very stiff email to the National Trust about how some of us got stiff hands and could have been made stiffs by some really dangerous speed humps. Hardly traffic calming! https://anerleybc.org/sunday-ride-9th-april-2017/

Tuesday 11h: So many riders it had to be seperated in three groups. We welcomed back John D who led us the Little Switzerland way to Leatherhead Leisure Centre for Easter Egg Cupcakes plus vanity photos aside the Mole (above): https://anerleybc.org/tuesday-ride-11th-april-2017/

Thursday 13th: Twenty or so follow Mark H on his popular Wandle Trail route to and around Richmond Park. Featuring deer and beer: https://anerleybc.org/thursday-ride-13th-april-2017/
