QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“Truly, the bicycle is the most influential piece of product design ever” - Hugh Pearman, Design Week, 12 June 2008

BIKE PORN OF THE WEEK

Barrie went window shopping at the Cyclery, Westerham on this week's damp Thursday Ride. He quite liked a bike that they were knocking out at only ten grand. Was it this one Barrie: http://westerhamcyclery.co.uk/shop/details/Bikes/OLTRE+XR4+CV+S.RECEPS+52-36+R0/YMBL8I

BICYCLIST OF THE WEEK

John Holah is a web developer who normally uses Southern rail for his daily commute. He has made a video diary of his journey to work on his bike this Tuesday, from Earlswood, near Redhill, in Surrey to Shoreditch, London in 90 minutes. Watch it here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-38567077

And contrast it with this bike-less lady's similar journey in 3.5 hours: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-38567080

Note B - during the meeting, a number of people present proposed to return to the UK on the Wednesday afternoon/evening by splitting off from the Anerley BC group and cycling to Lille to get the Eurostar train back.

Important Info

To get the best ferry fares, we need to book sooner rather than later and as a group booking.  It is proposed to ask for confirmation of your intention  to join the ride to Bullecourt by 23rd January 2017 and for a deposit to be paid equal to the return (or single) fare of £45.  Once you have confirmed we will ask you to make a payment to Brian to enable the club to book the ferry crossing(s) on your behalf.

All hotel bookings will be done as individuals, but once we have chosen a suitable hotel at each stopover point, we will try and negotiate a group rate to help keep costs down.

If you choose to return to the UK via Eurostar, alternative ferry route or other means, the planning/booking and payment of these arrangements will be for you to resolve.

Whilst this is an Anerley BC trip, this is not an organised tour and as such you would be responsible for your own food, drink, hotel accommodation, costs, expenses and we urge you to have appropriate insurance (medical, travel liability etc) in place for the duration of the trip and in case you decide to cancel later on.

FINALLY
Cyclists don't count as road users, argues transport secretary Chris Grayling. Can you believe it? From the man who 'doored' a cyclist and then blamed him for 'going too fast'.
