QUOTE  OF THE WEEK

“It is the unknown around the corner that turns my wheels.” – Heinz Stucke

BICYCLIST OF THE WEEK

On tour this week in Normandy with the 'Fridays' it was great to meet up again with an old club member - Tacey. You may remember her as the Canadian breadmaker.

Tacey is well and came over with her husband. She to do the tour and he to tootle off on a Brompton to do some serious birdwatching - well serious enough to have a substantial tripod lashed to the front bag.

TRICYCLE OF THE WEEK

A small deserted French village in the Calvados with only a small cafe for twenty four thirsty cyclo-tourists. Then around the corner comes another traveller. British and touring on a trike. As a member of the Tricycle Association he is known as a 'barrow-boy'. A very nice setup admired by all.

CLUB MEET - CARSHALTON ENVIRONMENTAL FAIR

Mark H writes:

There is a club meeting on the Thursday the 26th of July at 7pm at the Pear Tree pub, Purley. We need to organise a stand at the Carshalton Enviromental Fair on the 27th Of August (Bank Holiday Monday).

Who can help on the day? Who wants to show a classic bike? Who can bring a turbo trainer? Who can design a flag? Who can design a flyer to hand out?

A social evening to meet riders who ride on different days, You can also pay for your club kit and any other thing's you would like to talk about.

THE MARSHALL PLAN - A REMINDER

Outriders needed for Saturday 28th Freeride London.

Anerley BC has been asked to lead two routes one from Croydon and one from Sutton to central London for the Freeride event. The routes are about 14 miles each way, there is secure cycle parking at the event and all marshalls get a free packed lunch and the chance to cycle round the closed London streets and visit the cycle related stalls of which there are many.

Basically we need to shepherd novice riders along the route escorting them across junctions. About 30 plus riders are expected for each route and this is a great way to fly the Anerley flag to people starting to cycle and also to raise money for charity.

Pete S still needs a couple more marshalls so please volunteer by emailing this address marshall@anerleybc.org

FINALLY

Not the saddle of the week. This very expensive Brooks Cambium suffered a catastrophic break on the first day of the tour to more resemble a man eating alligator than the last word in comfort for the more sporty cyclist.

Fortunately this being France - there was a nearby Decathalon to bridge the gap between the thighs.

Perhaps Brooks should stick to leather: https://www.brooksengland.com/en_eu/saddles/cambium-c13-1.html

Happy Cycling!
