QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailleur? We are getting soft... As for me, give me a fixed gear!"  - Henri Desgrange

PEOPLE CARRIER OF THE WEEK

Spotted in Biarritz this week - yes, we have had Cargo Bikes before - but not an E-Cargo Riese & Müller. This one will power up to 45km/hour. That's just shy of 30mph. so if you fancy burning off the Strava Speed Merchants whilst taking the kids to school - this is for you!

Its their Packster model which comes with an amazing array of options. More here: https://www.r-m.de/en-gb/e-cargo/packster/

BICYCLIST OF THE WEEK

In fast pursuit of the above could be Francois Gissy from Alsace. He recorded a top speed of 163 mph  on his self-built rocket propelled bike on an old runway in Munchhouse in North Eastern France back in 2013. Just the sort of guy we should be recruiting into the club?

BULLECOURT - COUNT DOWN

Tomorrow morning (Saturday) is luggage pick up. 10am at Shurguard/501. Steve is ferrying it down to the ferry port for collection Monday.

Sunday - les touristas depart Shurguard/501 @ 8.30am for the 65 mile toddle down to Canterbury YHA. Be there if you want to see them off or join Mark H's 9am Sunday Ride in hot pursuit. Shouldn't take long!

From Calais on Monday the touristas head south to place a wreath to commemorate Club Captain Calder's death on May 3rd (Wednesday). Watch the forum for pictures and comments from the front (or back) if the WiFi works.

Pete S has put an excellent Press Release to attract the local journos: https://anerleybc.org/tour-de-bullecourt-press-release/

There may or may not be a Bugle next week depending on same!

THE OTHER 'LE TOUR'

This weekend also marks a more sporty Tour - Le Tour de Yorkshire (don't laugh!). Not featuring Bradley Wiggins as his team didn't make the cut - it will still be a feast of cycling that will undoubtedly turn up on some of the more obscure TV Channels: http://letour.yorkshire.com/
