QUOTE  OF THE WEEK

“Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of a bike ride.” – John F. Kennedy

THE MARSHALL PLAN

Ride Leaders and Marshalls wanted for The Prudential Ride London Family Ride. Saturday 28th July

Last year The Saturdays provided ride leaders and marshalls for the Croydon borough escorted  ride up to London to the Prudential family event and then back again. This year Anerley BC have been asked to do the same again from Croydon and also from Sutton.

Each route will require two leaders ( front and rear) and two marshalls to act as traffic blockers at busy junctions. Official hi viz bibs will be provided and you get a packed lunch on arrival, secure bike parking and the opportunity to ride round the closed London roads - all for free!

It's a gentle pace as most of these riders are novices and it is a very good opportunity to spread the word about Anerley BC

It's an enjoyable day and a great way to raise money for Charity. If we can cover both routes we'll receive £400 which I suggest we donate to Disabled Childrens' charities including Viv's Crystal Palace football box.

Pete S needs to confirm our availability next week so volunteers please step forward.
Anyone riding The 100 the next day is officially excused.

RIDE REPORT

Saturday Ride 7th July: Four took an exhaustingly hot ride to Horne Golf club 36 miles at 112.5 mph. That's it folks

UPCOMING RIDES

Saturday 14th July: The Saturdays are heading for Richmond Park (on road bikes). Meet Shurguard 9.00am  or 9.15 Coulsdon PO. Approx 50 miles tea and pub stop tbc. NB EARLIER START

Sunday 15th July: 09:00 Shurguard/501 Brighton Road: Looks roasting hot - Tom V rides to Peaslake followed by the Skimmington Castle at Reigate Heath - Cosy country pub with space to tie up horses by the beer garden (hopefully bikes too!)

Tuesday 17th July:
09:30 Shurguard/501 Brighton Road: 'A' Faster Ride: Tom V to mystery destination
10:00 Shurguard/501 Brighton Road: 'B' Slower Ride: TomTom to mystery destination

Thursday 19th July: 10:00 Shurguard/501 Brighton Road: Mark H leads.

FINALLY

Clas Ohlson is closing its flagship Croydon store. 50% off says Frank. For those who haven't been to its Whitgift Centre shop - it's a sort of Woolworths in IKEA style. All sorts of odd stuff.

Especially relevant to Touring Cyclists are their collapsable mugs, bowls and buckets. Bargain if any left!

I'm taking mine on tour to Normandy this afternoon. I have yet to pack them and else which explains this truncated version of the Bugle.

My apologies for all the stuff I have not had time to include. It's likely to be another Buglette next week. Normal service may return on the 27th.

Happy Cycling!
