QUOTE  OF THE WEEK

“There would be no Christmas if there was no Easter.”  - Gordon Hinckley

BICYCLIST  OF THE WEEK

Ahem, I don't want to start yet another acrimonious helmet debate - but I don't think that one is going to do much good for Mr Humpty Dumpty this coming fall.

BIKE OF THE WEEK

Oh Dear - did you know there was an EggBike? Neither did I. Its an e-bike from a new London based company called EggPower who also sell a range of e-bike related accessories including an App! https://eggbikes.com/

HOLY WEEK - OR HOLY HOLE?

Several club members have taken a tumble after hitting the rapidly proliferating potholes in this country. Its no good blaming the weather - other european countries with more severe weather conditions manage to keep their roads in a decent state.

Keith Ralph was commuting through Lewisham in January when he struck a pothole and was hurled from his bike. He was unconscious for more than a minute. Keith had CT scans which showed he had a bleed on the right hand side of his brain. He had a splint put into his mouth during emergency dental treatment, which left him physically sick from the pain. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-43407167

Just another story of the daily danger we all face. Its down, of course, to the austerity squeeze on local councils who have to make difficult decisions on who is going to suffer from the cuts [sic].

Its an easy one if you see the roads high up in a 4x4 with soft suspension. But even that 3ft deep crater in New Cross is pushing it. The Guardian here has an excellent article on what to do if you hit a pothole: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/bike-blog/2018/mar/26/what-to-do-if-you-hit-a-pothole-while-cycling

And even if you manage to miss it - do report it via https://www.fixmystreet.com/

NEW SOUTH OF THE RIVER CYCLE ROUTES

You will have to go north as Croydon appears to prefer ripping 'em out. Two new 'quietways' for those that want to get there quietly and one 'superhighway' for those that want to main road more speedily and safely.

Quietway 5: Waterloo to Norbury: This 4.5km route has just opened.

Quietway 7: Elephant & Castle to Crystal Palace: Completion this year.

Superhighway 4: Tower Bridge to Greenwich
Not much use unless you are Tom B. And it doesn't exist - yet. Just published is the result of the consultation. An interesting read when all the chocolate eggs are gone: https://tfl.gov.uk/travel-information/improvements-and-projects/cycle-superhighway-4

FINALLY

TomTom co-fixer of Tom V's little problem has suggested this page as a handy tool (oops!) for fixing things. It has lots of videos so you can sit back, relax and watch someone else get their hands dirty: https://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-help/

Happy Cycling and a good Easter!
