QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“And now we welcome the New Year. Full of things that have never been" - Rainer Maria Rilke

BIKE PORN OF THE WEEK

STORCK FASCENARIO.3 FRAMESET: £5,559.00
Yes, that's not a typo, Storck is charging £5,600 just for the frame! Storck is introducing the new Fascenario.3 for 2017, a bike that’s intended to be “the best road bike” out there with features variously designed for aerodynamic efficiency, comfort, stiffness, and ergonomic performance. You'd hope it's the best for the sort of money wouldn't you?

This is one of 12 hot bikes for 2017 featured here: http://road.cc/content/feature/211096-12-hottest-new-2017-road-bikes-pt-1-specialized-trek-giant-rose-and-more

BICYCLIST OF THE WEEK

Wiggo retiring to spend more time with his pharmacist? It is a shame that the end of such an illustrious career has been mired in a TUE controversy that is unlikely to be resolved one way or the other.

Checking out his entry at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bradley_Wiggins I discovered that as a young lad he raced on the roads around Crystal Palace National Sports Centre. Which, of course, must include Anerley!

RECENT RIDE REPORTS

Thursday Ride (29th): David G writes:
Mount Box Hill had a nasty surprise waiting for us at the bottom on our way to the Volunteer in Abinger. The sharp corner which usually saps your strength on the way up was finding victims on the way down. I tried to avoid two poor souls but was separated unceremoniously from my bike. Luckily Barrie and Jeff (or is it Geoff?) got off in time and witnessed a motorbike turn turtle! What fun! Keeping to the main roads we left Geoff (or is it Jeff?) at Dorking (I think he had had enough excitement for one day) - and arrived at the empyty Volunteer pub and sat on the only two seats not 'reserved' in the pub. We had a pleasant surprise when Belinda appeared with her daughter and we joined them at their table for a chat about Christmas and an offer to drive us back to Purley. We were sorely tempted but knew we would never live it down. A quick ride home along the A25 with Barrie doing a long stint on front - I was desperate to do my bit at the front but never got near enough!

FINALLY
How many miles are you going to ride in 2017? Let's have a little competition. Set your bike computer or whatever to zero on Sunday and report back when you have clocked 2017 miles. Then in 12 months time we can have a roll of honour ...
