Tuesday Ride 11th Sept 2012

What a fantastic summer it has been for sport (Olympics and Paralympics), and cycling in particular with the addition of the British sucesses at the Tour de France.  It is expected that there will be many spin offs with lots of new cyclists taking to the road.  We have our first newcomer.  Andy, who lives along the Chipstead valley, was inspired by watching the Olympic cyclists and decided to take up cycling again by joining Anerley B.C.  After his first Sunday ride with our club he went out and bought a bike more suited to the serious club cyclist, a Specialised Secteur, seen here on it’s second club outing when Andy joined this week’s Tuesday ride to Otford.

The ride to Otford is a good test of man and machine, with a good sprinkling of hills both up and down.  My favourite being the fast downhill of Star Hill Road at Halstead, with its sweeping bends and views over the countryside below.

After this white knuckle descent it was only a short ride to the tea room at Otford for the well earned cuppa, toast and marmalade.
Our return ride was along the Pilgrims Way, with just a brief stop to record the event.

Next Tuesday we plan to be off to the Surrey Hills, meet at Tesco Purley at 10, or join us at Coulsdon Post Office at about 10.15 as we ride by.  So let us hope this fine weather continues a bit longer!
